Connection Health Score Explained: What A-F Grades Mean

Your internet speed is just one piece of the puzzle. Pong.com's Connection Health Score gives you the full picture — an A through F grade that measures how well your connection actually performs in real-world conditions.

How the Score Is Calculated

Your health score is based on four equally important factors:

ISP Delivery (30%) — Are you getting consistent speeds close to your plan's maximum? We compare your average speed to your peak speed. If your ISP promises 200 Mbps but you only average 80 Mbps, this score will be low.

Stability (30%) — How consistent is your connection across multiple tests? We measure the variation in both speed and ping over time. A stable connection scores high even if speeds aren't blazing fast.

Wi-Fi Quality (20%) — Based on jitter patterns and bufferbloat measurements. High jitter variance often indicates Wi-Fi problems like interference or weak signal.

Latency (20%) — Your average ping response time. Lower is better. This directly impacts gaming, video calls, and overall responsiveness.

What Each Grade Means

A (80-100) — Excellent. Your connection is rock-solid. Fast, stable, and consistent. Ideal for everything from competitive gaming to 4K streaming.

B (60-79) — Good. A reliable connection with minor room for improvement. Suitable for most activities without noticeable issues.

C (40-59) — Average. Your connection works but has some issues. You might notice occasional lag or buffering during peak usage.

D (20-39) — Below average. Noticeable problems with speed consistency, latency, or stability. Troubleshooting recommended.

F (0-19) — Poor. Significant issues that need attention. Check our diagnostics page for specific recommendations.

How to Improve Your Score

1. Run multiple tests at different times to build a complete picture

2. Use the Diagnostics page to identify specific issues

3. Try the Troubleshooter for personalized fix recommendations

4. Consider a wired connection if Wi-Fi quality is dragging your score down

5. Contact your ISP if the ISP Delivery score is consistently low
